About the event
Friday Morning Session: 9AM-12PM, 3 hours of CE “MENTAL ERGONOMICS: THE ART OF PREVENTING CLINICAL BURNOUT” Kandice Swarthout, MS, RDH, LPC
▪ As a result of managing anxious or difficult patients, many dental professionals suffer from occupational stressors that have psychological and emotional consequences that lead to burnout and poor work performance. Dental professionals must also manage the reality of sometimes causing patients pain and discomfort in order to deliver services. This course focuses on how emotional labor and compassion fatigue lead to stress and burnout for dental professionals; the neuroscience of stress on the brain and body; the clinician’s personal responsibility in the culture of the dental practice; and practical applications for prevention and recovery.
Friday Afternoon Session: 1PM-4PM, 3 hours of CE “FROM RISK TO RESULTS: PERIODONTAL INSTRUMENTATION FOR THE ADVANCED PRACTITIONER” Lisa Mayo, RDH, BS
▪ This course is based on current scientific literature and will provide the clinician evidence based tools and strategies for comprehensive patient care. The Evidence-based Decision Making (EBDM) process will be discussed with regard to periodontal risk assessment protocols, salivary diagnostics, and progressive treatment planning. Advantages of ultrasonic instrumentation will be examined as demonstrated in the current research for obtaining successful clinical outcomes.
Saturday Morning Session: 9AM-12PM, 3 hours of CE “SPECIAL CARE DENTISTRY FOR THE DENTAL PROFESSIONAL” Jonathan Clemetson, DDS, MS
▪ There is an ever increasing population of Patients with Special Needs as patients live longer and a significant deficit of oral health care providers to meet their needs. There have been guidelines by the Surgeon General for Dental Schools to better prepare their graduates to meet this need. This course will help you understand protocols for better treating Patients with Special Needs, and identify dental and non-dental management of this population of patients.
Saturday Afternoon Session: 1PM-4PM, 3 hours of CE “ORAL CONSIDERATIONS OF ORGAN DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION ~ SURPRISING OUTCOMES!” Karen Davis, RDH, BSDH & Tricia Osuna, RDH, BSDH, FAADH
▪ Karen and Tricia share the miracle of organ transplantation from unique perspectives. Creating a story of hope, challenging participants mindset, they share their journeys with lifesaving information! Organ transplantation may alter oral health of recipients. From pre to post transplantation we should acknowledge the unique services these patients require. Organ transplantation is steadily rising in the US; if you have not met a transplant recipient in the dental office yet, you will soon!
